Overnight, a woman's life can change...

A husband's death, a job loss, a disability, illness or addiction can be overwhelming.  Hopes, dreams and plans can simply go cold.  For some women, a change is not the womandifficulty, but a lifelong belief handed down from previous generations - a sense ofbeing stuck with no power to move forward.  Escape from thesefeelings can be difficult, but it's far from impossible.

If you are a woman who is ready to put in the effort, Christian Women's Job Corps of McLennan County offers encouragement, nurture and support as you become self-sufficient and able to provide for yourself and your children.  We'll help you build up your determination and persistence.  You'll begin to "see it like it could be," and believe in all your possibilities.  Most importantly, we'd like to help you experience God's love, forgiveness and grace.

Shaneka was single, pregnant, and not sure what to do next. CWJC opened doors for her to begin a job at Wal-Mart while she attends TSTC to become a dental assistant. Her education will be a stepping stone to a better career and a good life for her child. Her Journey Partner (mentor)-a single mom herself who just completed her degree at MCC-gives Shaneka hope of what she can accomplish and encouragement as she perseveres.
Betty came to CWJC to learn computer skills and Bible Study; but through our program, she learned to forgive her life-long abuser. She discovered how to set boundaries in her own family. Betty worked at the Family Abuse Center through the Americorps Program for a year, helping other women deal with their abuse as she used the skills she had acquired.  She is currently the Volunteer Alumni Coordinator for Christian Women’s Job Corps.

CWJC Waco celebrates 5 years

The vision for Christian Women’s Job Corps of McLennan County began in 2003.  Training was completed by the director, a prayer team was formed as the foundation for the ministry, and a plan was put into place.  In May 2004, the first group of women began classes.  Many volunteer hours contributed by members of the community and many contributions by individuals, churches, foundations, businesses, and organizations have resulted in approximately 100 women successfully completing the CWJC program.  Christian Women’s Job Corps graduates are working throughout McLennan County and are not only making positive changes in their lives but are also having a positive influence on future generations.  The staff and volunteers receive as many blessings as they serve in this ministry as the women who attend the program receive.  It has truly been a community effort led by God for the past 5 years.  We look forward to many more years in the future.
